My fellow Americans, mark this day down as the first day of being govern by Socialism, because we are no longer a Republic. My 2nd amendment rights are looking better and better. Make no mistake they will take that away to, they have to.
For those of you that want another choice for President take a look at Bob Barr.
Lets change this country. We need new blood for a leader. Remember people we are more then a two party system. Let us not forget that we have more choices then those that are shoved down our throats by a majority of the media.
We put our Senators and Representitives in office so they would represent US - Americans. Instead of representing US and working on a good solution they came up with crap and are shoving it down our throats. Our children, grand children and their grand children will pay for this horrible bill if it passes the house.
Members of the House of Representatives once again stand up for the people you promised to serve and vote NO for this bill.
I'm furious! I've never been to Washington before, but I am ready to march.
I'm a Husband, a father, a struggling small businessman. My wife I each have retirement benefits to worry about losing, and even with all that at risk we STILL know that this move would be COMPLETELY irresponsible.
I would rather eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the next 5 years in a flat out depression than see socialist tactics be shoved down our throats.
They are turning the dollar into a worthless rag.
To match that, my confidence in government is gone!
I agree with most all of the above posters and, in particular, Rich White. Agree that we can exercise our rights and TERM LIMITS would be a great way to go!! I don't have a problem voting out Lieberman and DODD - they really need to go!! I think that the Senate and House is hoodwinking us - what is the real excuse for this fiasco? Call after call, on RUSH today, told about going to the banks and getting loans, so explain something to me, WHAT is causing this crash?
We need to email and call our representatives and tell them to vote NO on this pork bail-out bill!!
how is more money going to bad bussness deals going to help the PEOPLE pay more for gas food morgages when are hands are tied to compete with oil purducing countries THEY have the 900,000,000 ?
To CP: Your math is all wrong. I've pointed this misconception to others, including PhDs.
If you assume 225 million people in the U.S., and want to distribute 85 billion dollars to them, each person would be given $377.78 NOT $378,000. Check your math and you will see I'm correct. 225 million has six zeros behind it, while 85 billion has nine zeros. The result is the same as dividing 85,000 by 225...and the answer is 377.778.
Sorry to disappoint you.
Both Iowa Senators voted yes...they will not receive my vote either! Or my in-laws vote, or my husband's vote, or my parents' vote...how many can you afford to lose guys??? Hope you enjoyed your run.
I want to scream at the top of my lungs, write a long response, say a few choice words.
Where was the bailout package for hard working 50+ people that lost a large part of their pension when their employers changed from traditional pension plans to cash benefit plans? Where was the bailout package when we started losing our employer paid health care and started having to pay $2500 + for high deductible health care plans. Where was the bailout for Katrina victims? Why is FEMA offering help in the million + neighborhoods that have no visible damage from hurricane Ike and not in the neighborhoods that have been wiped out? What morning will we wake up and and the now emerging countries will have passed us by? It is sad to see that the greed of a few causes a nation of people to suffer. Our lawmakers in Washington DC have disintegrated our economy and our country by not doing their jobs. This is not the first time they have done this and won't be the last. Our lawmakers are not for the people or we would be building new infrastructure, providing more affordable health care (health care packages like theirs), and where is our Bullet Train? They are the most fiscally irresponsible, greedy people trying to please big business and make sure they have campaign money. I think it is time for government reform and we the people need to play a bigger role.
I am not for this "bailout" and $700 billion will not be the end of it. Our great senators have already added a few more billion. I wonder whose pockets will get padded next? IT WON'T BE THE EVERYDAY WORKING PEOPLE THAT PAY THEIR TAXES....
I would like to be one of the few who can publicly stand tall and proud of Senator Sessions and Shelby for voting against the bail out. It takes guts to vote the way your constituents want you to vote. I am so very thankful that our Alabama senators have enough backbone to stand up for what's right.
The downward spiral that this nation is in can be directly tied back to every one of these politicians and the lobbyist special interest groups that they are indebted to. There is no more a concern for the good of this country or for the citizens who legally reside here. Those who voted yes on this bill have shown their true colors and must go. My vote and support goes to anyone willing to stand-up and fight against this political monstrosity that put us in this mess. Let capitalism flourish and break away from this socialistic mindset we are currently headed. It began with the illegal immigration bill that American citizens spoke out against and defeated, we can do the same here, pray for the H of R and if we are overruled by the ignorant politicians we still get another vote.
Thanks to everyone who made inputs on this situation we are not alone…
i have 2 questions,
what does this bill do to help the people who could not pay there bills that put these financial intitutions in the shape there in, what happens in the next couple of months when they still cant pay there bills, another bailout?
majority of the people did not want this and our reps still voted it in
will not be voting for the 2 from arkansas this time
Senator Reid started an unfounded rumor of a pending bankruptcy in a large insurance firm earlier ... does Senator Reid owe more than an oppology for causing 5 major insuance companies to loose an average of 12%?
Cochran and Wicker - you listened to the people. Thank you for voting no - even though the bill passed. I believe by comments here and from co-workers that you have made brownie points with the residents of MS.
Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander (TN), what were you thinking!! Enough is Enough. Fix this problem without spending OUR tax dollars!!! I have an idea let's elect some people that CAN fix this HUGE mess we are in. Is anyone really for this bailout, please post and explain how it's going to "fix" this?
Dodd thinks this will restore confidence in Congress? I think he and Barney need to stop smoking those dollar bills stuffed in their pockets from JP Morgan and Fannie May! So much for your "pig with lipstick" plan settling the markets... maybe you should've worked to settle the country instead.
Thanks alot Chuck Hagel for voting to save your @#$%. Chock up another embarrassment move you've made for Nebraska. Why don't you just quit fooling everyone and turn democrat?
Circulate his petition to rename the good "Old USA" TO: USSA United Socialists States of America,,, hurrah!!!! The bankers I have talked to assure me they have all the money I want to borrow within my credit worthiness! But that again is based on the "Old Country" I personally am getting my garden ready for the long Bolshevik Winter.

My two Senators from Alabama voted NO. Good Job, Boys! I am so glad you listened to the people of the State of Alabama. I did my part and sent my thoughts to both of them. The rest of you that voted YES and did not listen to the Voters in your State, you just wait till next election. From what I am hearing, you may have just voted yourself right out of a job.
Well lets see if you look most of those voted against the bill are from small states with some industrial and farming country. But those that voted for it are bigger states with more at stake. Here we are in a conumdrum. If they would just listen to the american people instead of trying to filling thier own pockets we wouldn't be in this mess. Everyone knows that Inflation is going up and no matter if they bail out or not the Inflation is not going to change. Listen to the people!! Freeze the inflation adn let the economy fix itself.
PERFECT THIS IS THE WAY , WE HAVE TO ACT QUICKLY AND FORGET ABOUT THE CRISIS , THERE IS NOT SUCH A CRISIS, WE ONLY NEED TO GET BACK THE CONFIDENCE OF THE WORLD AND GET TO WORK. DO NOT LOSE TIME ARGUING.
THANKS.
We're only a month away from a national election. Why not let, we the people, vote on this?
Dow fell today even after senate passed this bail out!
I say if you find yourself in a hole quit digging.
Is it time for, we the people, to take our country back?
I know this had to be done to save us from doom and a meltdown, so I agree to it. However now would have been a good time to address the Banking Institutions from bilking the US taxpayers on CREDIT CARD INTEREST RATES. Nope leave that the way it is so Banks can still make mega money. Not a one of them has the guts to takel that either.
An SMU professor was quoted as saying that our pols were put there by us because they are smarter than we are and they can make these hard decisions while ignoring us, their constituents.
We may not be smart, but I am smart enough to know who not vote for next time, problem is I don't know where the alternative is. The good capable honest "smart" folks don't run for office, so we are stuck with these "elites" in both parties. We are screwed and its not even close to over, who thinks this will fix the problem?
The real reason for the bailout doesn't have anything to do with us, the U.S. It's to keep other countries like China and Japan from losing the money they invested in our toxic bonds (cdo's). If they lost their money when banks and other companies went out we would really see a global crisis and the U.S. dollar would soon be replaced by another currency as the global standard. Also it would be many years before we could get other countries to invest here. Perhaps we should buy Yuans now?
I agree with most of what everyone is saying, however; just exactly what do we really think they should do? If they don't pass the bill the economy crashes and we go into a depression and then EVERYONE takes a hit like we have never known. Maybe that is a good thing - kind of like a hard re-boot - it might wipe out all the junk that has accumulated and we start anew. OR we re-boot and the same problems come right back. The problems may have started with the Clinton Administration trying to help the poor own their own houses. A noble gesture for sure. But you can't lay all the blame on the Clintons since the Republicans signed on to the deal as well. No, this is a big "crap sandwich" that we all helped make and now we all have to take a bite out of it no matter how bad it tastes. To lay it off on all of our politicians is probably not the the most reasonable tact. Nearly everyone benefited from this. Houses being built provided jobs which helped pay for services and other products which provided more jobs and on and on. So, it is time to fix the problem and stop trying to fix the blame. I don't know what the total answer is and neither do most Americans or the talking heads on TV but I don't think we need to be bailing out every company that can't pay their bills or adding tax breaks for every pet project that every politician has. Stick to the industries that need the most help and let the rest go by the wayside. Stop listening to the media and start listening to your hearts and your heads. This country survived a depression, 2 world wars, 2 Asian wars, 2 middle east wars, attacks on American soil, devistating hurricanes and whatever else fate threw our way and WE DELT WITH IT! Maybe we didn't deal with it to everyones liking but we stood our ground and we are still the greatest country in the history of mankind. We are AMERICANS and we will persevere!
Amazing. 75% of our Senate voted for a bill opposed by 95% of its constituents. Corporatism is here folks. Perhaps a seven-day general strike will remind our leaders that we still have a constitution.
Being obvious that our government has every intention of passing this bailout that so clearly benefits the wealthy few. I hope that all americans will join in the effort to vote out of office every senator and represntative that votes for the bailout. It is clearly obvious that they have their best aimed at supporting big business and not the constituents that put them their.
I have totally lost all respect for washington. They are the most selfish, selfcentered bunch of crooks I have ever learned to distrust. I will never believe anything they try to con us with ever. They have alterior motives that they aten't revealing to the American people because they really think we're stupid and they have all the brains. They are so out of touch with us and don't give us a second thought unless it's time to suck up for election. I never could understand how they can make promises not knowing if they can keep them or not and any one going around saying how they promise this or that is as blind as a bat. A lot of us are much smarter than they think they just don't give us much say except when they want in office. I hate paying their salery with my hard earned money and getting shit on.
How could either presidential candidate vote for this bill in good conscious, especially with all the ear marks. Hasn't the slogan for both parties been CHANGE. Just how do these candidates define IRONY?
I'm very disappointed and angered by these results. Both my US Senators (one Dem and one Rep) are lucky that they're not up for election this year, but Missourian's please remember to vote OUT Senators Bond and McCaskill as soon as they're up for re-election!
This is just one more reason we do not need more lawyers running our government, it's full of them now and two are running to be P & VP we need people with common since OMG, jdw
If they don't pass this bill, who do you think is going to end us "bailing" the american people out when we go into a depression? Has anyone cared to read about the great depression? The recesson spiraled downhill after banks became conservative and stopped lending money. That is starting to happen right now! The only saving grace we have in the consumer is so ill informed, they are still spending money like nothing is going on.
This is not about bailing out Wallstreet. This is about you and me. All of you crying that we have sold out, the majority of you will be crying about high unemployment, deflation, no credit, etc. Wake up folks!
JM go to Canada if you want facism. That is the system you are talking about and the path that this country is heading down. The problem is debt. We do not need credit companies or lending of any sort really. Yes at first the whole thing would be scary. But after the dust settles building an economy on saving and taxing consumption versus based on credit and taxing income would be the sprout of one of the most healthiest economies on the planet. Housing would not be overinflated in the first place and wealth-building could flourish down to the lowest classes of income.
Louisiana finally did something right. Both voted no. Good for
you for refusing to bail out those who got us into this mess. I
won't forget it come election time.
Dave, I agree, I will work to remove McCaskill and Bond. They have both sold out the people of MO. It is clear that Congress has no respect for the people they represent. And they do not respect the Constitution.
Remember we have more than two choices this year! So stop complaining and vote for Baldwin/Castle '08.
We must return to the Constitution that our founding fathers gave us. Look at your neighbor, at your local business, at your local bank and at your children, there is where your credit will be. Refuse to listen to the fearmongers....our communities and our homes are highly valuable, there is where you will find trust.
The passage of this so called bailout only makes the US weaker. We have to do something now; for the sake of our children!
One senator voted for and one voted against. The senator that voted for the bailout does not get my vote even though he is in the party I normally vote. The senator who voted against gets my vote. Greed is at the heart of this issue, people who are living beyond their means and greedier people inticing them to do it.
How Sad...I too wrote my Senators and Representives from Texas and told them to vote no- both times....they didn't listen and they won't recieve my votes again- None of them!!! They vote "yes" is a "NO" from me!
This is only the first peanut we're feeding these gorillas. They'll be back for more and cold beer to wash em down with. Guess who's buying. Better get a second job. My Representative, Virgil Goode, 5th District Virginia voted against paying this ransom. He'll have my vote without lubing this bill with taxpayer's money. Senators Webb and Warner of Va. voted in favor. I'll only vote for them to join the rest of the unemployed.
I would be hard pressed to improve on the sentiments already expressed in this forum. But on a purely personal note, I have seldom felt so betrayed and angry – the conduct of our so-called ‘representatives’ is inexcusable. This anger, I fear, isn’t one that will fade with time… because the disastrous consequences will be front and center for years to come.
So why are we exhausting our national treasure (whatever might be left) spreading this brand of ‘democracy’ around the earth? This isn’t something to spread, it’s something to quash!
And didn’t we all notice how quickly these poor pathetic politicos – for all their ‘Hate Bush’ rhetoric – bow and scrape whenever ol’ G.W. pulls his petulant little pout? You bet we noticed.
You hit it on the head, O’Reilly – but your bud Barney Frank doesn’t have the exclusive on cowardice – and neither do the Dems – there’s plenty to go around.
(Please forgive that I merely repeated what I posted on the 'representative' side of this forum. But having read through the comments, I didn't see much need to amend.)
Mark

We do not need credit companies or lending of any sort really. Yes at first the whole thing would be scary. But after the dust settles building an economy on saving and taxing consumption versus based on credit and taxing income would be the sprout of one of the most healthiest economies on the planet. Housing would not be overinflated in the first place and wealth-building could flourish down to the lowest classes of income.

Louisiana finally did something right. Both voted no. Good for you for refusing to bail out those who got us into this mess. I won't forget it come election time.

If they voted yes I will vote against them in Nov. There were other options to consider.
