I have been sitting here watching the House debate. I can't believe Barney Franks had the nerve to say he won't let George Bush take us down the road to socialism. Unbelievable!
I would say our nation, under the auspices of the two political parties, has developed a Hugo state of mind. There is only one way to end this fantasy nightmare they are creating and vote them all out November 4th. A yea vote or a nay vote does not matter at this point. For far too long this Congress has decided, on many occasions, the wishes of the American people to be inconvenient (immigration is a good example). There was one person from this Congress who sought the highest office and he was belittled or ignored by the media and even members of his own party. Yet this congressman from Texas not only has a firm grasp of our problem, but plenty of ideas to solve them as well. Perhaps the truth here is Ron Paul is far too smart when it comes to the elite of both parties. This Gentleman offered "true change" and for his trouble he was snubbed or worse, painted to look like a wack job from the sticks. We will rue the day for not having him on the ticket this year. Perhaps his logic from the House floor will once again convince the members to vote no on this nonsense, but politics being what they are, we're screwed.
here's an idea america. not only should we fire our congress members that vote yes, but lets take a stand.
if they do pass this bill, i say we take all of our money out of whatever banks they are bailing out and put our money in the other banks and credit unions. these banks deserve to go out of business for their poor decisions and greediness. if the government wont do it, i say we as americans take a stand and stop these banks from ruining more lives and costing us more money.
I will not vote for Senators Hatch or Bennett if they run for re-election. The least any patriot could have done was insist that the "pork" be taken out of the bill.
I've been firing my elected representatives for some time now. Problem is, most of the people around me don't get it. Hopefully, they will wake up and see the dangerous path we are going to tread if we get government involved once again.
There's no question a yes vote means they don't deserve to return to office. My one senator up for re-election (who is supposedly a conservative republican) voted yes, and he has lost my vote. I await the results for my congressman.
I'm a conservative and absolutely oppose the bailout. Here in Georgia, John Lewis (Democrat) who represents my district voted NO. High Five, John, you'll get my vote in the future.
Unfortunately, both Senators Chambliss & Isakson voted YES. See ya - note votes for you! Crazy bedfellows this crisis is causing...I'm actually going to support John Lewis!
This is completely unnecessary. I'll be voting no every chance I get.
1. This is not an economic crisis. Ask yourself, If a Democrat was president, would this be a crisis? I don't think so. What's the actual default rate on home mortgages? Is the US economy so fragile that it crumbles due to some minor percentage of mortgages are defaulting? I don't think so.
2. The brain trust in Congress and the federal government created this problem. Let them shut down enough government and lay off enough government workers to come up with the $750B supposedly needed to solve the problem. Don't ask the American taxpayer to pay for this.
3. Explain to me why it's a problem that the price of real estate values is dropping? Prices rise, prices fall. Eventually the prices will get to a level that actually make sense and people will be able to afford housing again.
4. Explain to me why it's a problem that people who bought McMansions they couldn't afford are now defaulting. Let them go rent.
5. Explain to me why it's the tax payers' problem that banks and lending institutions made liar loans and no-money-down loans to people who couldn't afford them? Those banks and lending institutions should go out of business.
The smart money is already rushing in. Warren Buffet is no fool. He's cleaning up.
If the house votes YES, then my vote in November will be to send them home. It is all about who has the money. If I did not pay my bill's the the banks would not blink an eye to come get my house, why is it that when the banks can't take care of there business that they turn to the feds to bail them out. You can call it anything you want but it is a BAILOUT and we the tax payers will be paying for it. Look out for all the PIGS... Pork for all in DC.....
I will be voting No to Congressman Wesmoreland from Georgia. This mess happened on his watch. Maybe we can get them all out of Washington so we can start over -- obviously experience in the government is not important since this crisis has been overlooked for so long. We need to take back government so Washington will realize their jobs are dependent on us.
Thank you Representative Barney Frank Senator Chris Dodd. Once again you have provided US tax payers with another reason to distrust our government. Thank you for pressuring Fannie and Freddie to guarantee loans for unqualified borrowers. Thank you for continuing and fortifying the cycle of socialism. Thank you for publicly telling tax payers that Freddie and Fannie were both solvent institutions – this helped more people buy stock so they could lose their life savings. Thank you for stealing another $850,000,000,000 so you can cover up additional crimes you have committed. Oh, by the way, in case you have not done the math:
$2,786,885.00 BILL FOR EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN CITIZEN!
I am proud to call you both great Americans!
I would rather usher in the great depression part 2 than burn up the Constitution (in regards to the balance of power). If this generation messed things up this generation needs to STEP UP and fix it NOT PASS IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at what these baby booming, silver spoon having, no good, old farts have done for us (the younger generation) so far... We already can’t afford your retirement (social security) now you want to double down on what we already cant pay you SOBs....
Someone please spike the Geritol!
I will vote against them if they vote for the bailout. It's simply disgusting what they put in the bill. There truly seems to be no honor with the majority of these politicians
I live in Georgia and will cast my ballot early, I am waiting until the voting is over and then I will vote NO to all who voted for the bailout. I resent being asked pay for the bailout and I resent being asked to help people who obtained mortgages they could not afford. My husband and I are seniors and we have made grave errors in our life time, no one bailed us out and we are better for it. People learn from mistakes and become better people . If we continue to bailout we will become a country of takers, we are already a country of people and government who take no responsibility for their choices.
My representative, Robert Anderholt, and my two Semators, Shelby and Sessions have voted no on these bills.
Today Anderholt has to stand up again for Alabamians and Americans. I hope he has the moral courage to do so.
All the other Alabama representatives have voted yes so I am taking retirement four months early to dedicate my self to campaigning against all of them now and anytime they run for elected office, including dog catcher.
Does the word "socialism" have any meaninf to any of the people voting for this bill.
I will be taking a list of everyone that votes for this Bailout and vote against those that chose to ignore America. They are more then willing to save these big companies that screwed Millions of Americans, but what about the little guy, small businesses that have already been lost? Those are the real companies that define America, not the big corporate crooks.
Yes, I would vote to send my Senator and House Rep. home if they vote yes on this bill. Fortunatly, neither of them did on the first vote, I hope that they continue to listen to the people and resist the temptation to be bullied by an alarmist over zealous administration. If our government leaders would take a few moments just to look back through the history books there have been several economic down turns as well as depressions, especially during the 1800's that were able to correct theirselves without a $850 billion dollar bailout bill!!
It seems obvious to me both houses need to be replaced regardless of how they vote. It is there incompetence that got us here in the first place. We still haven't heard anything about any prosecutions have we? This bailout is simply handing over another blank check to people who should be in jail!
RoyB
If she votes Yes I will vote NO for my congresswoman come November 4th.
There are other ways to solve this rather than spending more of my tax dollars.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT, Hutchison isn't running again (for Congress) - she's running for GOVERNOR of TEXAS!!! I would have AT LEAST considered voting for her for Governor, but after her throwing Texas under the bus in the border issue and now this, I will do EVERYTHING I can to educate people on what a TERRIBLE choice this would be!
You can bet I'll work AGAINST Sen. CORNYN as well - This is REALLY hard for me, since I am a dyed-in-the-wool RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE!!! Oh no, you should be REALLY afraid of ME!
I will be doing everything in my power to send them home....You will no longer have our support Mrs. Hutchison. To baggage the American public for generations with this is pitiful! This is socialism plain and simple and it stinks! It further saddens me that some of the very people that these lenders prayed on with these horrible loans will be some of the ones to help these scoundrels keep their golden parachutes. What was Palosi's words...no golden parachute...well it is in the bill she voted yes to. These CEO's get to keep their millions at our expense? Where is the good for the tax payer in that? ...Wake up! Republican and Democrat alike, you all make me sick. Absolutely! Our family will vote them out!!
The pork is unacceptable. Here we are in a time of economic crisis and do they show us restraint? Do they show us leadership? Do they teach us the hard lessons of fiscal restraint during tough times? NO! With total disregard for their constituents, against their pleas, they added 150 billion MORE pork? This can't be happening!
What am I missing...is the plan is to stabilize the economy while at the same time having the people lose all the basic trust and faith in their government? They couldn't settle down for a moment to separate the good from the garbage. Unbelievable.
Yes, if they vote in favor of the bill (I believe my senators have) I will vote against them in November! Too much "pork", too big a hurry, too little thought put into it.
If they vote yes on this package to bail out Paulson and the good old boys club on Wall Street who made vast errors in the financial system of this country while millions of people go without health care, are on the verge of losing there homes...
There is going to be serious consequences.
The answer is yes, send them home after they vote for what they have placed themselves in the position of having to support. This bill is a pig that has some usable pieces in it. But par for the course, WOODEN ARROWS are part of it. We all can be forgiven for our actions, but that does not mean we don't face the consequences for our actions.
The sad reality of this is the likes for Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd are in largely untouchable areas. So the real abusers never face the music.
So vote yes pray some parts of this work, THEN SEND THE OUT TOUCH MORONS HOME.
I wrote both my Senators yesterday... "Words cannot express my disappointment and anger" at them both supporting this bill... Also sent a letter to my Representative requesting his "Nay" for this sick and twisted effort. Time will tell... I cannot supoprt my Senators after the Monday vote and I will not support my Representative if he does not represent me!
Anything that Bush is supports and hastily wants to pass should be a red flag to us all. It's time for a taxpayer revolt..Government is breaking the back of the so called "Middle Class"... it's more like the working poor!!!!!!! I have expressed my opposition to this "Bailout" to my Senators and Representative.. And I will not be re-electing them back into office if they voted yes!!!!!!!
The Federal Government:
President Bush, Senator Schumer, Senator Clinton, Representative Hall, Senator McConnel, Rep. Boener . . . and anyone else who’ll listen to reason.
Dear Sir/Ma’am:
If you haven't noticed this issue has got me very exercised. The federal government has screwed up something as simple as the home mortgage and now the same people that screwed it up want to fix it!?!? I am unable to understand how we do “dumb” so well in Congress but do “smart” so well as indidvuals. Why is that? Is it because individuals feel the consequences of our stupidity with the greatest alacrity? Is it because 1/3 to 1/2 of our bicameral legislature serves in politically uncontested seats? Maybe it is because the amount of legislation you pass is too much for any man or woman to read before you vote for or against it? Whatever the reason I’m damned tired of the Congress rewarding bad behavior. If a friend was living beyond his means I wouldn’t give him a loan, I’d tell them I’ll give them everything but money. Maybe that is the rub. Money is the language of Washington not principle or values. I notice over the decades your legislatures pass “ethics reform.” If we have arrived at the point that we need written laws to induce men and women to act with character and integrity - we are in deep shit. They’ll always be the scumbags, but when the scumbags take over and start writing the rule book on how to behave in civil society we’ve got trouble right here in river city.
Let’s say you don’t believe in a supreme being and the various versions of the bible were just dreamt up by some mad man. Are not the 10 Commandments a good idea? Would it not be wise to have a society that agreed on the wider questions - and if it didn’t, would treat each other with love and compassion? Why is it that so many of you fight against religion - when for most it is the answer, not the enemy. Number eight reads “Thou shalt not steal.” I cannot conceive of any greater theft than shackling the next and current generation with this piece of legislation.
I’m not naive nor a happy idiot; I know that some of you will lose your seats because of how you vote today. When ever I’m facing a fearful moment in my life - I go no farther then considering my grandfather and how he felt climbing into a B-24 to protect his bomber with a .50 caliber machine gun over Europe - I’ve no doubt he was scared, no doubt he missed and loved his family, no doubt he was angry about how even how that war was being waged, no doubt that he absolutely hated war, but my grandfather to his last day did what he had to do every day of his life. I ask no less of all of you. He and millions of other men and women protected us from evil from without. All of you must protect us from evil from within, do not let the panic of the moment in the heat of an election force you to fire your guns, save your ammo for the day when we have a new Legislature and a new President and work wisely to correct the cancer that the federal government caused in the mortgage market. I swear I think the lot of could screw up a brick shit house - and comming from somone who cleaned one at summer camp that is a very difficult thing to do.
America voted no last time and this "new package" is even worse.
Count on me and anyone else I can convince to vote out those
who give this abomination a yes vote.
they have not even considered any other options. the current one benefits them some way or anyother, so i hope it is enough to replace their job. they had a chance to make things right with the bill that would have anyone making over a million a year pay for this thing. when they voted that down as well, it was clear to me they dont care about middle class as we are the ones going to pay for this.
i most definately will FIRE anyone that votes yes on this in both house this year and senate when they come up.
We want to hear you, they say - with their fingers firmly pressed into their ears! I may have been guilty of a short memory before - but NOT THIS TIME!!! May God help us if we continue down this path.
Obviously my answer is "no". A "yes" vote by Congress will help sink this country futher into the pit of dispair.
I think the problem is even bigger than this bill....it all goes back to accoutability. We have become a nation that no longer makes people responsible for their actions. Where did common sense and accountability go? I think that the congressmen/senators should be all tossed out and re-elect new representatives that have no vested interests influencing their decisions on Capitol Hill. What has happened in our government is a travesty and our founding fathers would be devastated.
I'm from Illinois and since both of my Senators vote for the bill I will be voting against them at the next election no matter who runs against them. If my representative, Tim Johnson votes yes to the bailout in its current form, I will vote against him also. There is TOO MUCH pork tagged on this bill that has absolutely nothing to do with the spirit of the bill.
This is an opportunity for the people of the United States to send a clear message, listen to the people you represent or we the people who elected you to office, will remove you from office!
I whish there was an eject button on the Capitol Bldg. that would remove all members of Congress from office.
I plan on voting against all incumbents in my district and State of Texas no matter how they vote on the bailout. This Congress should be embarassed to ask for our vote: most are to dumb to run for dog catcher.
Sence it too late now, after this election, change your political affiliation to NON AFFILIATION and break the backs of the Demacrate and Republicain parties. A political party that has no members has no power.
A crap sandwich with marshmallows is still a crap sandwich. The “sweetened” Senate bill is a fig leaf to cover up the need to investigate who caused this crisis, and it’s an excuse to drastically increase government control of the economy. Instead, please, please consider the COMMON SENSE PLAN by Dave Ramsey. At a minimum, the House needs to stand up and cut the pork out of the Senate bill. All that pork is so hypocritical and the voters can see through it.
THIS IS A MANUFACTURED CRISIS, AND “CRISIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO MANAGE THE BEHAVIOR OF A FRIGHTENED CITIZENRY”
If they vote "yes", then my vote will be "no". Why should we bail them out? They will do this again. Wall Street knows the loop holes, and will remain corrupt. When will our government start listening to its people again. We are the country! Politicians are there for us!

Count on me and anyone else I can convince to vote out those who give this abomination a yes vote.
John
They vote yes, I vote no.

they have not even considered any other options. the current one benefits them some way or anyother, so i hope it is enough to replace their job. they had a chance to make things right with the bill that would have anyone making over a million a year pay for this thing. when they voted that down as well, it was clear to me they dont care about middle class as we are the ones going to pay for this. i most definately will FIRE anyone that votes yes on this in both house this year and senate when they come up.
Chuck Taylor
We want to hear you, they say - with their fingers firmly pressed into their ears! I may have been guilty of a short memory before - but NOT THIS TIME!!! May God help us if we continue down this path.

Just checked my Senators. Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich should be ashamed. Their loss. I will choose someone else next time.
Deb
Obviously my answer is "no". A "yes" vote by Congress will help sink this country futher into the pit of dispair. I think the problem is even bigger than this bill....it all goes back to accoutability. We have become a nation that no longer makes people responsible for their actions. Where did common sense and accountability go? I think that the congressmen/senators should be all tossed out and re-elect new representatives that have no vested interests influencing their decisions on Capitol Hill. What has happened in our government is a travesty and our founding fathers would be devastated.

I have already called my Senator, Jon Kyl, and informed his office to expect a big fat NO! vote in the next election.

This is an opportunity for the people of the United States to send a clear message, listen to the people you represent or we the people who elected you to office, will remove you from office!
gerry ludwig

Arnold
ABSOLUTELY! My rep votes yes, I vote him out!
Mac McCaa
If they vote "yes", then my vote will be "no". Why should we bail them out? They will do this again. Wall Street knows the loop holes, and will remain corrupt. When will our government start listening to its people again. We are the country! Politicians are there for us!

If they vote "YES," I will vote "NO" when their term comes due. Socializing our country does not earn my respect nor my support.
