Last week the Labor Department reported the nation’s unemployment rate jumped to 6.5% in October and this morning weekly jobless claims spiked to the highest level since September 2001.

I work for one of the major financial companies and we have some transitions coming up that will mean some job cuts. I think our group is going to be safe, but you never know.
While we have an emergency fund set aside (about 5-6 months of bare bones expenses), and my line of work has historically done pretty well, it is a little unnerving. I have one daughter in her senior year of high school, so college expenses are on the near-term horizon... its going to be tough if things don't get back on track...

It would unrealistic not to be concerned in light of the current conditions and economic projections. The impact is just too broad.
